University of Amsterdam

The University of Amsterdam has its origins in the Athenaeum Illustre (founded in 1632) and with more than 32,000 students, over 5,000 employees and an annual budget of more than 600 million euros, it is one of the largest general research universities in Europe.

In the 2015-16 QS ranking the UvA is ranked 55th overall, as the highest-ranking Dutch university on the list. As of 2010, QS publishes its World University Ranking independently. It ranks the top 700 universities in the world and is based on scores for the quality of research (citations and peer review), student-to-faculty ratio, the proportion of international students and faculty and the reputation of institutions among employers.
