The UNISCA Organisation

The UNISCA Course is organised by the University of Amsterdam (UvA) and the UNISCA Foundation, jointly.

History of UNISCA

In 1995, eight students from the University of Amsterdam , the Netherlands, created the UNISCA Foundation. Their main purpose was to inform young people about world affairs and the role the United Nations play in these. In addition, the Foundation hoped to train diplomatic skills in students. To accomplish these ends, the UNISCA Foundation has contacted the University of Amsterdam. Jointly, they have initiated a university course, open to students from all over the world.

In 1997, the first session of the UNISCA course took place. Over 250 students participated in the course and the simulation conference, which was held in May 1997. In the two years that followed, two more sessions of UNISCA were held. Allthree of them were considered a major succes.

In November 2000, over 300 students gathered in Amsterdam for the fourth UNISCA conference. Some of their experiences and activities have been captured on film. To give yourself a good impression of what the conference was like, take a look at these photos .

Board of Directors

The UNISCA Board of Directors consists of an Executive Committee and a number of added members. The Executive Committee bears the daily responsibility for the project. Its members take care of funding and acquisition, all organisational aspects of the conference and most of the undertakings of the Foundation. The Board of Directors watches over the long-term well-being of the UNISCA Foundation and supervises the long-term projects the Foundation engages in.
